Village of Alamance Public Recreation Committee Meeting

September 25^th, 2024

Present: Phil Cheap, Dale Hunt, Anna Clemmons, James Coble, Jennifer Thompson.

Absent: Mary Penland, James Bundren

Trey Fouche with NC State Recreation Services spoke to the new board members and gave an overview of what they could expect to do as a committee. He advised them to create community surveys and reach out to speak with their neighbors and Village residents to get feedback on their interest in recreation. He suggested looking at a variety of community statistics and considering the surrounding areas and all they offer for outdoor recreation. Then, they could try to fill the gap for what’s needed most in the Village. Mr. Fouche explained that this board will advise the board of Alderman, who in turn will be responsible for making the decisions about what types of recreation will be offered, if any.

The board agreed to hold a regular monthly meeting on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. The next meeting will be held at the town hall on October 15th. The board agreed to consider different survey techniques and options for residents to take the survey. They will also work on creating a mission statement and considering potential property in the area.

Dale Hunt was selected as the interim chair for the board until they work together longer to vote on a chairperson. They will also set term limits next meeting.
